London Fashion Week - Bora Aksu AW14

So, London Fashion Week kicked off today and being a Fashion Journalism student, I was pretty darn excited! As you may or may not know, I'm the assistant editor of Fashion North - a university-run website for 18-30 year olds in the North East. So, as you can imagine we've been very busy today writing up catwalk reports, tweeting, live blogging and eating plenty of chocolate cornflake buns.

Luckily, I got to write up the catwalk report for the Bora Aksu AW14 Collection and boy, was I happy. I've decided to share my catwalk report of the show on my blog, so if you're interested, please read on:

Turkish designer Bora Aksu took us to the fifties for his Autumn/Winter 2014 show today, with one specific lady inspiring the new collection – his mother.

“My mum was in a boarding school so they had these really specific uniforms with lots of blues and collars and belted waists and I just kept seeing this same kind of form but everyone was so different, the uniforms were so different on each girl.”

The collection is based around uniforms, taking a 50s uniform shape and using a childlike concept. There’s a contrast of a child’s colourful and imaginative world within this collection as Aksu says; “I’m taking elements from the uniforms like stripes and navys and greys and clashing it with mustards and reds and things like that so there’s this richness but also this muted feel.”

The girls were accessorised with soft, flat shoes and matching hair bows as they walk down the catwalk accompanied by Russian and French fairytale music.

The collection was also made up of pussy bow blouses, peter pan collar and waist cinching dresses in a mix of dark and bright colours, as Bora Aksu aimed to portray the mixed emotions a young 13-year-old girl would feel being at a boarding school away from her parents.

I thought the concept for Aksu's designs were really interesting and absolutely loved the collection as a whole.

What was your favourite collection of the day?
